New Pasadena Unified School District Supt. Jon Gundry wants local schools to join a growing national movement that emphasizes computer technology and training students for emerging industries.
Before taking the helm July 27 at Pasadena Unified School District, Gundry served as interim superintendent of the L.A. County Office of Education, where he pushed local school districts to join the Partnership for 21st Century Skills.
The coalition of education advocates and technology companies, often referred to as P21, has spearheaded initiatives in 16 states for educators to emphasize practical skills — critical thinking, communication, technology and entrepreneurial aptitude, for example — alongside more traditional academic fare.
