Edward Ssekandi, vice president of Uganda, will appear at a business mixer to be held Wednesday afternoon at the Altadena Community Center.
According to Altadena town councilman Okorie Ezieme, Ssekandi and several government ministers are visiting the United States and have been honored in Washington, DC, and taken part in a presentation at the University of Southern California. Ezieme said that he asked for a few favors to arrange the visit, as a local elected official of African birth (although, Ezieme said, he's not from Uganda).
The invitation-only event is called the "Business Luncheon Meeting with the Vice-President of Uganda, ministers, local elected officials, and the business community." The event is hosted by the Quality of Life Center, with Ezieme as sponsor.
Ssekandi was first elected to the Ugandan Parliament in 1996. He was elected Speaker in 2001, a position he held until he was appointed vice-president this year.
UPDATE, 10:50 PM: Dr. Sandra Thomas, CEO and Dean of Scholars at the Quality of Life Center (as well as Altadena town council chair), called us to say that the Quality of Life Center is not involved in the event. Ezieme told us that the Quality of Life Center was hosting the event.
