Temperatures are expected to soar up to 107 degrees in the valleys this week before falling back into the high-80s for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Daytime highs are expected to peak on Wednesday, with 105 degrees in Pasadena and 107 in the Greater Glendale area. Temperatures will likely drop significantly for the weekend, falling back into the high-80s as a low-pressure system "dives into the region," according to the weather service.
In the meantime, officials warned that the high temperatures combined with offshore winds will create dangerous fire conditions.
Public health officials also called on residents to keep a watchful eye on pets and elderly neighbors. The nearest cooling center is the Altadena Senior Center, 560 E. Mariposa.
