The National Black Child Development Institute and BCDI-Pasadena/Altadena will hold "Entering the College Zone," a training and motivational program aimed at middle schoolers on Sat., Nov. 5
"Entering the College Zone" is designed to encourage African American and other middle school students and their parents who might not otherwise believe that college can be in their future to begin planning for college early. “Many African American children do not envision college in their future,” comments BCDI Pasadena/Altadena Chairperson, Debra Doxey. “We want to create an awareness that enrolling and succeeding in college can happen through early and sustained preparation.”
The program will engage parents in the process of preparing their children for college early. Parents are invited to attend "Entering the College Zone" and participate in the workshops. The program will teach students and parents the elements that place students on the road to college. Instruction on course selection, academic performance, financial assistance, technology and extracurricular activities will be offered. In addition, local professionals representing a diversity of occupations will provide personal guidance to the students and their parents during a round table luncheon.
