Pasadena police have opened an investigation into possible child abuse at a boot camp for juveniles, following the release of videos that showed harsh treatment of campers.
Pasadena Deputy Chief Darryl Qualls said the department decided to launch the probe after seeing videos on the Pasadena Star-News website of activity the newspaper linked to Kelvin McFarland, who runs Pasadena-based Family First Growth Camp and is already facing criminal charges stemming from a separate incident.
“It looks disturbing,” Qualls said. “We have concerns that [the conduct in the video] bordered on criminal activity.”
