The Pasadena Board of Education has called for possible censure of board member Scott Phelps over accusations that he violated confidentiality agreements and obstructed efforts to hire a district superintendent in June.The 4-2 decision on Oct. 18 to hold a censure hearing on Tuesday fell along entrenched dividing lines, with members Ramon Miramontes and Kim Kenne coming to Phelps’ defense.
Phelps, who was absent from the meeting, decried the effort as political payback for his criticism of a superintendent candidate who took herself out of the running following his comments on Facebook and the Pasadena Star-News website.
“Since late June they have plotted their revenge,” Phelps said in an interview. “This censure [attempt] is their revenge.”
