- Weed-bashing: Please join the Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy this Saturday as we work to restore habitat in Rubio Canyon. Volunteers will remove invasive plant species along historic trails in the canyon, allowing native species to flourish. Bring a lunch to enjoy in a cool, shady spot after the work day. We recommend long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and suitable shoes. 8:30 AM-noon, meet at E. Loma Alta Drive and Camp Huntington road.
- Mt. Lowe history hike: The Conservancy also continues its series of local hikes with a hike along the route of the Mount Lowe Railway. Learn about the railway's history with docent Lyle Hatridge, and relax at the waterfall at the end. The hike is about a mile each way. It's demanding at points, with several high narrow steps near a sheer drop and a scramble over rocks in the creek near the end. AFC strongly recommends hiking boots, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a hat, and water. Dogs are not allowed because some sections of the trails are narrow. Runs 9 AM-noon, meet at Pleasantridge Drive and Rubio Vista Drive. More information:http://www.arroyosfoothills.org/docent-led-hikes
