After a quiet period, the county enforcers have raised their heads again. Chris Larson at the Rancho Bar, 2485 N. Lake Ave. (Altadenablog sponsor team member) tells us they got a violation notice from the county czoning czars:
I did receive a violation notice (for karaoke w/o an entertainment license) from regional planning this week ... It's almost comical how the county govt operates...I was first given a non-compliance notice by the Business License division. They told me to bring a check for $346 to them to get a license. When I went to BL office, they sent me over to Regional Planning office - who told me I didn't need a license unless we had a dedicated karaoke room. Later, another person at Regional Planning told me I did in fact need a license, and I would need to pay $16,000 for what they called a "directors review" and a "parking review". These poor folks at the county govt are just shooting from the hip - they don't even know their own regulations, let alone how to explain them to the unfortunate businesses under their domain.
And so it begins again ....
