$3.4 million in county damages so far

The Altadena/Pasadena area suffered the heaviest damage in Wednesday night's windstorm, says the county.

Los Angeles County Mayor/Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released a report as of Friday that the county suffered $3.3 million in damages to clean up fallen trees, clear and dispose of debris and carry out operations on roads. An additional $111,000 of property damage occured at Eaton Yard, which usually handles flood control.  The Eaton Wash dam suffered damage to the roof of its control house.

Damage included:

Santa Rosa Ave. (Christmas Tree Lane): Trees have fallen on the Lane, and an overhead power line went down. According to the county report:   "Public Works’ electricians responded to perform a lock out/block out for the lights that had been strung in the trees in advance of the December 10 lighting ceremony.  We are continuing Wind Damage repairs on XMAS Tree Lane."  No official word yet on the status of next week's tree lighting ceremony.

Traffic lights: The county received 130 emergency calls related to County-maintained traffic signals:  75 loss of power, 18 flashing red, 2 accidents, 4 hanging street name signs, 15 traffic signal head turned, and 16 other wind storm related damage, the report says.   As of Friday morning, 60 traffic signals are still without power and 11 traffic signal calls are pending field completion.
