Tamirfilms, an independent film company, launches initiative to combat bullying through filmmaking. Silencio, an all-volunteer effort, is an innovative and “high-tech masterpiece”, says the film’s producer, Tamir Yardenne.
The film is a pillar for the national program with the same name that champions anti-bullying efforts and fostering positive environments for today’s children. Thus far Silencio has organized more than 800 volunteers in ten states, with its initial launch scheduled in Los Angeles, California on November 22, 2011.
The launch of Silencio will begin with its Student Leadership Forum that seeks to immerse young Latinos in an intense 8-week course in film production. The course will connect local youth with experienced professionals in the entertainment industry and provide young filmmakers with an opportunity to receive practical, hands-on experience. Interns will be a vital part of the project and assist in the film’s production. The curriculum will include marketing as it pertains to social media, pre-production, on-set production, and post-production. Students will get to produce their version of Silencio. “How Cool” says one applicant.
The Student Leadership Forum has gained local and national media coverage, and is supported by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
