The latest information from LA County law enforcement agencies is that there have been 1,849 DUI arrests since Dec. 16, and there will be checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout the holidays -- so drinking + driving, not a good idea anytime.
If you want to stick close to home, the Altadena Ale & Wine House, 2329 N. Fair Oaks, opens at 2 PM and will be toasting the arrival of the New Year at every time zone (French New Year at 3 PM, British New Year at 4 PM) until 2 AM New Year's Day. There will also be a raffle for bottles of festive wine held hourly. Enjoy yourself, but be responsible (see above).
The Coffee Gallery, 2029 N. Lake, will have a potluck party at 7 PM (bring some food and your choice of beverage for toasting -- it's a private party). There will also be things for sale to raise funds for the Gallery's entertainment license, and lots of fun both front stage and backstage.
