When we were growing up in Colorado, forest fires were just nameless fires --"you know, the fire, the one in July, the one that burned up the hills back of the ridge?" One of the best things the National Forest Service ever did was start naming their fires -- so when everyone hears "The Station Fire," you know exactly what they're talking about. Local fire departments name their fires, too.
So we had a bad windstorm last week, and we'll be living with its effects for months and talking about it for years. It needs a name.
(Yeah, they call the wind Mariah, but we think we can find something more appropriate ...)
We're opening it up to the hive mind: what shall we name last week's windstorm?
