Local officials have not demonstrated that the ferocious windstorm that ripped through the region Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 did enough damage to qualify as a federal disaster, and they are asking agencies to provide more information to meet the federal threshold.
On Wednesday the California Emergency Management Agency told Los Angeles County officials that area cities had failed to meet the federal threshold for public damages -- $50.3 million --to qualify for the declaration.
As a result, county officials are asking all cities, unincorporated areas, school districts and others to report damages through the Los Angeles County Operational Area Response and Recovery System. The system can be reached by calling 1-800-980-4990 or 2-1-1.
