Highlights from Tuesday night’s town council meeting:
- Chair Dr. Sandra Thomas announced that the Altadena Town Council and the town were invited to participate in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade, and there was a group that wanted to look into preparing a float.
- Girl Scout Clari Solliday, 11, presented a proposal to put a four-way stop sign at the intersection of Los Flores and Santa Anita. Part of her scouting bronze award, her request has been made known to the county.
- Tanganica Turner of Assemblyman Anthony Portantino’s office said that there would be formal announcement of a new partnership between the University of California and historically black colleges and universities (HBCU), with a summer fellowship program that will promote business management skills for HBCU students. The announcement will be at the Robinson Memorial across the street from Pasadena City Hall on Tues., Jan. 24. THe ACT-SO Alumni from the Altadena NAACP will open with a musical performance at 11:15 AM.
- Altadena Sheriff Capt. Steven McLean reported on the reduction in crime during the year 2011 -- Part I serious crimes were reduced 24 percent in Altadena, with only the Avalon Station recording a greater drop.
McLean also announced the arrest of Robert Michael McBride, who deputies have connected to burglaries at the 24 Hour FItness at Lincoln Crossing. - County parks district manager Meliza Hernandez said that he REACH program (job training for high school and college youth age 16-24) will start a six month winter session in February with 11 students hired to work at Loma Alta, Charles White, and Farnsworth Parks.
