The Sierra Club's Forest Committee will host a special program, “Grizzlies and Black Bears in the San Gabriel Mountains,” at 7:30 PM Wed., Jan. 25 at Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 N. Altadena Drive, Pasadena.
Noted wildlife biologist Kevin Brennan will trace the history of the mighty grizzly bear that used to dominate local mountains and valleys until the rise of two-legged competition. Brennan, who has worked for 20 years with the California Department of Fish & Game, will also discuss the history and habits of the black bear that now roams the San Gabriels and, sometimes, our neighborhoods and hot tubs.
The program also will include the latest on the National Park Service’s proposal for a National Recreation Area for the San Gabriel Mountains and River.
A social reception at 7 PM precedes the 7:30 PM program.
The program is free and the public is welcome. For information, email Don Bremner at donbremner@earthlink.net or John Monsen at wildernessjfm@aol.com.
