The Muir High boys' basketball team will not be participating in this year's CIF Southern Section playoffs as the program forfeited 20 games, a rare Pacific League championship and any postseason consideration on the heels of the Sunday playoff pairings release.
Muir Principal Sheryl Orange issued a statement Sunday morning that the basketball team “will be forfeiting the majority of its games from the 2011-12 season and will be ineligible for the CIF playoffs because of the use of the ineligible player.”
Orange further stated: “After being alerted by [the CIF Southern Section office], Muir administration investigated and determined that a player on the boys' basketball team was not eligible to play because a valid change of residence could not be sufficiently established. Out of an abundance of caution, Muir decided to forfeit the games.”
