Gloriana Casey has a little something for Black History Month:
"Mothers and Fathers of INVENTION"
from gloriana casey
It's February and the month,
BLACK HISTORY won't slumber.
Start out to read and marvel too.
Like Stevie, it's a WONDER!
My favorite five of inventors,
both new and older time,
although, perhaps you've favorites too,
but these five---they are mine!
Dr. Mark Dean: COMPUTER.
SCIENCE would be his middle name,
as Stanford PHD!.
An engineer electrical
made history, you see.
At IBM, he started out;
NINE patents to his name,
plus twenty more-- and beyond that
just google for his fame.
For as we tap upon those keys
in our computer life,
Dr. Mark Dean--- he found the way,
giga-might insight
Dr. Patricia Bath: SECOND SIGHT
Her work as Opthamologist,
the study then ---of eyes.
From cataracts that cloud the view,
her laser gave sight's prize.
From birth in Harlem on she went
to doctor's true LIFE line!
The Laserphaco Probe is hers,
in cutting edge design.
Imagine that! This world wide gift
to see the world now clear.
Enjoy creation once again.
Eyesight--- So fine and dear.
Benjamin Banneker: . MAN OF THE TIME.
Inventor from the long ago,
in learning---he put stock.
From 18th century self - taught man,
America's first clock!
A watch he borrowed to see how
watch movement, it was kept.
A wooden one he did design,
which kept the Time--perfect!
His vision to adapt the parts,
for metal he had none.
Improvisation for those parts
and Mastery was done.
An author and a farmer too,
read more and find delight
For if things can't be done one way,
he found a way that's right!
Sarah Breedlove: BEAUTY-FULL DREAMER
Now Sarah Breedlove, was her name,
where truth and beauty twined.
For hair products she did invent,
a personal care Gold Mine!
Perhaps you know her other name?
Madam C. J. Walker.
Millionaire-- philanthropist
a CAN DO People talker!
INVENTIONS come from everywhere,
find what you do love then!
Success, like hers, it could rain down;
as humanist--a win!
Dr. Daniel Hale Williams: A MEDICAL VALENTINE.
Heart surgery--had long been done,
although it was quite stressful.
But Dr. Dan, he was the first;
the patient LIVED---Successful!
A Valentine for Chicago,
first all black hospital,
with school and training added too;
Health's Valentine for all!
He saw a need and filled it too,
community was changed.
Ideas, they were his driving force,
from his impressive brain!
There's so much more to celebrate,
though these five caught my eye!
INVENTORS are the curious,
so google and you'll spy;
Whatever that you dream might be,
no matter what your age,
investigate--commit to this!
Add YOU to History's page!
"A dream deferred," as Langston wrote,
"a raisin in the sun?"
Be GRAPEVINES of Invention then,
Empower dreams to run!
INVENTORS? Yes, they've change the world,
in lessons five---- you see
So power up your brain's VINEYARD!
IDEAS? Your legacy!
