We have no explanation for this mystery yet, but ... let's see what the Altadena hive mind can come up with!
Matt Wright took a photo of this mysterious object in his neighborhood on Tanoble Drive. He says that there appear to be offerings of colored stones and loose change around it.
Another neighbor reports that he saw a gathering of about 15 teens in various medieval costumes standing on the corner on Tuesday evening about 7:30 PM: " Two or three more were walking south on Tanoble to parked cars, one with a motherly-appearing adult. I waved at both groups as I slowly passed; several waved back, and appeared quite innocent ... I teach high school kids, and showed this picture to a few game enthusiasts this morning. They didn't recognize the symbol, but said it probably comes from initiating newcomers to a game."
The symbol on this standing stone appears to be a caduseus topped by an alchemical/astrological image of Mercury. That's our guess, but what it means, we don't know.
So -- any ideas as to what this is and what's going on? Comment away! (We're looking both for accurate answers -- and "creative" ones!)
