"A Stitch in Time"
from gloriana casey
Now budget fiends, I say to you
of things you want to cut.
This cutting off the MARS project?
A sword to nation's gut!
For JOBS we need, and here's the point
in REAL "Trickle Down,"
From NASA space technology
inventions do abound!
One dollar spent exploring space,
in eight or nine comes back.
Inventions spread from outer space,
NEW business is on track!
TECHNOLOGY SPIN-OFFS, you see,
a wide net this does cast.
For what starts out in outer space
builds future made to last!
Those scratch resistant lens you wear,
gives sight a better view.
Plus batteries, high density,
space research gave to you!
Flat panel TVs? Yes that too,
to give the "ohhh and awe."
And don't forget that underwear
in athlete theme sports bra!
And medicine, you'll benefit,
like diabetic folk.
Insulin pump-- implantable,
LIFE SAVING---that's no joke!
There's pacemakers and GPS,
and braces that fit right.
Photovolactic solar cells!
Oh yes! We see the light!
From space research, the way to track
Forest management---OIL spills!
Plus cordless power drills, uh huh,
for DIY work thrills!
And Congress, yes Alaska has
that bridge built to NO WHERE!
But California builds REAL stuff,
not castles in the air!
To cut these funds is robbery
to JPL, our neighbor.
They give back more than they take in:
TECHNOLOGY--to savor!
As Ben Franklin, wrote long ago,
"A stitch in time saves nine,"
So DO NOT CUT the Mars Project,
Earth's future---on the line!
