The Pasadena Unified School District is seeking a new head of finance to replace Chief Finance Officer John Papallardo, who is leaving to become a deputy superintendent for San Juan Capistrano public schools.
Papallardo’s last day in Pasadena is April 13, said district spokesman Adam Wolfson.
Since coming to the Pasadena district in February 2009, Papallardo has been forced to grapple with more than $20 million in state budget cuts.
In his latest report to the board, Papallardo projected that in a best-case scenario the district will have to cut at least $3.5 million from its $180 million 2012-13 budget. But if Gov. Jerry Brown moves forward with cuts to education in his January state budget proposal and voters reject his proposed tax initiatives, the district could face a minimum of $13.5 million in cuts.
