"Space archeology" -- an emerging discipline to preserve the historic evidence of mankind in space -- is the subject of the Mt. Wilson Observatory Lecture at the Altadena Library.
Chapman University instructor Justin Walsh will talk about the cultural heritage of objects and artifacts that happen to be located in space. While many cultural artifacts and areas are set aside for preservation, certain areas -- such as Tranquility Base, the site of the first moon landing -- do not qualify for protection. Walsh will talk about what space objects and sites deserve such protection, and whether there are existing models to promote such protection.
The lecture will be Sat., March 24, at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa St. . Refreshments start at 2 PM, lecture at 2:30. Admission is free.
