Eric Pierce, chair of the Altadena Town Council election committee, revealed the dates and process for this year's town council election, which was approved by the council without much discussion.
Councilmembers serve two-year terms, and so half the council is up for election any given year.
Election day will be Sat., June 9, from 9 AM-3 PM at various locations to be determined. As last year, there will be "pre-election" voting for those who can't make it on election day, to be held from 5 -9 PM on Tues., June 5, at the Altadena Main Library Community Room. That ballot box will be held until the Saturday count.
PIerce said that they were planning some changes this year, including bringing back the banner that would hang over Lake Avenue, a new stand-out color scheme for the yard signs that identify polling sites; and will be using more streaming video. Last year, there was a video on YouTube aimed at election day volunteers.
A candidate's forum is set for the May 15 council meeting.
Candidate application packets will be available at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr.; online at the Town Council website; and on this site after the jump. Candidates must fill out the application and submit a candidate's statement along with a check or money order for $35 at the community center window by 5 PM May 8.
NOTE: Scribd, our document handling service, seems to be having some internal problems today. We will upload the documents as we can. Fixed!
UPDATE 5/5: Election chair Eric Pierce says that documents will not be available on the council website, and we are publishing a revised Candidate's Information sheet after the jump.
