It's now time to start gearing up for the American Cancer Society's Altadena Relay for Life, to be held at Farnsworth Park on June 9-10.
There will be a kick-off rally this Friday, May 11, from 4-7 PM at the Altadena Community Church, 943 E. Altadena Dr. It'll be a good time to support your team, start a team, sponsor a walker, volunteer, or just learn more.
According to a recent release, teams so far are:
Team Trojan with Team Captain John Pings
Curves Altadena with Team Captain Vivian Price
ACC with Team Captain Karen Bagnard
Rollin' for a Cure with Team Captain Alan Kunihiro
St. Elizabeth's Spartan Heros with Team Captain Raquel Pizano-Hazama
Soroptimist Strutters with Team Captain Marilyn Commodore
Isotonix Walkers with Team Captain Wendy Schonhardt
Daring Divas with Team Captain Lucy Molina
St. Mark's Church with Team Captain Elizabeth Butler
Blue Jay with Team Captain Darlene Sternquist
Altadenablog sponsor Curves of Altadena owner Rose West, who is also event chair, said: "Relay is such an important event for us ... nearly everyone can relate to being touched by cancer in some way, and this is a great opportunity for us to come together as a community and do something about it. It’s exciting to know that we’re not just participating with the members in our own community, but with other Curves owners and their members across the country as well."
Last year, the Curves team raised $3411 and they were the #2 team. This year, Curves of Altadena has set a goal to raise $4000.
