The U.S. Postal Service has decided to close Pasadena’s Mack Robinson Processing and Distribution Center, prompting criticism from Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) and Judy Chu (D-Monterey Park).
The center is one of nearly 250 facilities to be shuttered as the postal service seeks to contain costs and reduce a ballooning operating deficit. It is not clear when the center would close, though postal officials plan to complete its consolidation efforts by 2014.
While mail sorting and distribution work would be transferred, a postal center for customers would remain open at the site.
“Closing the center would have a detrimental economic impact as it provides hundreds of good-paying local jobs and ensures the swift and timely delivery of mail throughout the San Gabriel Valley, which is necessary for local businesses to operate smoothly,” Schiff said in a statement.
