from the office of Adam Schiff
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) met with over twenty students from Aveson Charter School in Altadena as part of their annual field trip to Washington, D.C. on Thursday.
“It was great to meet a group of such bright and engaged students today who were visiting from Aveson Charter School,” said Rep. Schiff. “We talked about my role in Congress, about preserving education funding and even the budgetary and appropriations process. It was a special treat for me to get to talk with them on the front steps of the Capitol, and I hope they had a great visit to Washington, D.C.”
The sixth through ninth graders from Aveson met with Schiff during their field trip to the nation’s Capitol on the East Capitol steps in between votes of the House of Representatives. The students each raised over $1,000 in order to pay for their trip by hosting a car wash, selling chocolates, holding a rummage sale and even hosting “Hot Food Mondays.”
During their trip, the students visited the National Mall at night, including the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. They also toured Ford’s Theater, the iconic theatre where President Lincoln was assassinated, and are planning on touring the Capitol today. Schiff helped arrange the tour of the Capitol on Friday and made sure that the students had passes to the House and Senate galleries so students can watch proceedings and votes.
