Wednesday’s third and final meeting of the Altadena community visioning process drew only about 50 people as it presented a draft of a document that the county hopes will serve as a blueprint for future planning and development in Altadena.
The draft “Vision Report” teased out six “primary characteristics” of Altadena, as determined by the input from community members at the two April meetings, online, and in meetings with the consultants and community groups and individuals:
- Diverse, eclectic, unique character
- Views and access to the mountains and nature
- Town/district centers with thriving businesses
- Safe and peaceful neighborhoods
- Community cohesion and strong institutions
- Opportunities for walking, biking, hiking, riding, and play
Each of those characteristics was then given some “guiding principles,” followed by “key topics to address” in future planning.
For example, one of the key topics to address under “Views and access to the mountains and nature” was completion of and access to the Altadena Crest Trail.
After a presentation of the high points of the report, there was a table for each of the “characteristics” for people to further comment. As in the previous meetings of the process, the table devoted to Altadena business drew most of the lively discussion.
Susan Harden of RBF Consulting, which is managing the project for the county, said that they would be taking more input by phone and online for the next few days. They will then meet with the Project Committee (which consists of town council members and other community leaders) to prepare the final report, which she said should be available in about a month. She said that it was not determined if there would be some kind of event to unveil the final report.
