A 125-lb., one year old juvenile bear was safely darted and sent to the Angles National Forest Tuesday, say Department of Fish and Game officials.
According to a release from the California Dept. of Fish and Game, the bear had been hopping fences and exploring back yards in Duarte all morning. A game warden was able to use a tranquilizer dart to subdue the bear on the 900 block of Swiss Trail Road. Wardens and city officials cheked the bear's health and loaded it into truck, where it was released about 40 miles away into the Angeles National Forest.
“This was a best-case scenario for the bear, DFG and the people of Duarte,” said DFG spokesman Andrew Hughan. “We have high hopes that the bear has learned that being around people and communities is a bad thing and will live the rest of his live in the forest.”
