Jane Brackman at the Altadena Historical Society shares with us this month's mystery photo:
One of our readers asked us to post this photograph and inquiry: “My daughter asked me to send you this photo to put on your site as a "mystery photo" in hopes that we might get an ID for the location. Arthur Lindley is one the far right of this photo (with the dog) and my grandmother Anita (his daughter) is the tallest child on the left (with her brother and sister).
The property owner was Milton Lindley, who migrated west from Indiana in the 1880s, and the site is most likely close to the historic Davies Building in Farnsworth Park, on north Lake Avenue and Mt. Curve. We suspect that the L.A. County Park Department office still standing in Farnsworth Park might be a remodeled remnant of the original Lindley property. Please let us know if you have any information about the Lindley family site or the history of the park department office building.
