In Altadena town, I live
and one walmart was sad.
But having TWO, oh me oh my,
this is not good, but bad!
That cyclopes eye, right next to Ralphs,
that crater evil eye
has morphed into a MOUTH, me thinks
will eat us by and by!
Our little town, next to the wild
of parks and lovely hills,
this second walmart troubles me
and truly ---my blood chills!
Our Main St. business, little guys
will now be undercut.
Will ghost town rise in taunting us?
I feel this in my gut.
For CHEAP PRICE, yes is touted much,
but what cost for us all?
ONE company like two bookends,
our town perhaps will fall.
I hear from some about walmart,
they " anchor business " more.
That anchor thrown across our bow.
Small business? On sea floor.
And some will say,"It's Free Market"
some players just---- will die.
It does not work that way for banks,
I wonder, wonder why?
Across the nation walmart comes
with pay and hours low.
Our neighbor's business undercut
and then--- where will they go?
Oh play out on that old squeeze box
a mournful little tune.
Perhaps we need some people might
a mindset of HIgh Noon?
Believers in the "SMALL is Good,"
oh--- please pay heed today.
