Altadena and Sierra Madre search and rescue teams worked during the night Thurs., July 12, to save an 18-year-old Torrance man who was stranded on the side of an Eaton Canyon cliff.
According to a release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the rescue took seven hours, involved 24 rescue personnel and 1,400 feet of rope to lower the hiker, who was stick on loose rocks alonga steep cliffside above the Poison Oak Flats. The sheriff's department says he was about 250 fee off-trail..
"The hiker was stuck in a tough spot. He was climbing down a very steep canyon area, when he fell and somehow got down to the bottom without seriously hurting himself. He was able to call out to a hiking partner, who called 9-1-1," said the press release.
The initial call was at 5:45 PM Thursday, June 12. The hiker was uninjured and transported to his vehicle at 12:45 AM Friday.
