Rescue crew deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department had a workout July 13, with three helicopter rescues in a little over an hour.
It all started at 1 PM on July 13, with the rescue of a man at Eaton Falls (our original story and video here). The victim had fallen 80 feet and landed on the canyon floor, sustaining moderate trauma injuries. Rescue crews reached him, provided initial treatment and hoisted him up by helicopter.
Once he was in the Air Rescue 5 chopper, the crew saw another hiker perched precariously on an Eaton Canyon cliff face approximately 150 feet above the floor of the canyon. Deputies determined he was unable to move, and a paramedic was lowered to the man, who was secured with a rescue strap and hoisted into the helicopter.
The chopper then flew the injured hiker to a hospital for treatment.
While at the hospital, Air 5 received another call of a a Moorpark man who had plunged over 60 feet at the base of Hermit Falls at the Chantry Flat campround north of Arcadia. They flew to the scene, lowered a paramedic who treated the victim at the scene, and he was hoisted into the helicopter and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
