- Dan Abendschein, the local editor for the NYC-based Patch chain of websites owned by AOL, is moving upstairs to the assistant regional editor's role. Our friend the Altadenahiker Karin Bugge (an actual Altadena resident!) will be filling in until they name somebody permanent. We wish him luck, and no, we're still not interested.
- Altadena Farmer's Market stalwarts Plow & Gun Coffee are the subjects of this LA Weekly profile.
- Reader Kristin Petherbridge alerts us to an interesting event in Pasadena: "The 2nd Repair Cafe will be on Saturday, August 18th, 8:30am to 11:30am at Jones Coffee. This event will focus on the repair of small appliances and electronics. We have some very talented Repair folks lined up, so find that blender that won't blend or a toaster that won't toast and bring it on down for a consult or repair. In addition, we will have someone on hand to sharpen knives and a DIY stencil station to print the Repair Cafe logo on your apron or tee-shirt." Jones Coffee is at 693 S. Raymond Ave., Pasadena. Repairing appliances is environmentally-conscious, and appealingly retro at the same time!
