Southern California Edison recently made a $5,000 grant to the Altadena Historical Society to help digitize its collection of Mt. Lowe documents.
AHS president Jane Brackman said that "The AHS Mount Lowe collection, documenting the early 20th century San Gabriel mountain railroad attraction, consists of more than 2500 documents including photos, post cards, artifacts, ephemera, letters, maps, slides, films and books. The SCE grant will enable AHS to digitize 500 documents and create a virtual exhibit of the early 19th century railroad phenomenon that students, researchers, and the public can access on-line. AHS expects to have the project completed at the end of 2013.
AHS will also have Mike Manning speak on the project in a program at the Altadena Community Center on Mon., Oct. 22, at 7:30 PM. The program is free and open to the public.
