"The First Monday in September"
from gloriana casey
"Labor Omnia Vincit "----or
Hard Work conquers all!
To have the WORK you truly love
in answer to Life's call!
For Grover Cleveland signed the act
to make this holiday.
As life before was truly sad
for workers held no sway.
In time now passed, the children worked
at age so very young.
At 5 years old,----worked in the mills!
Such cruelty! Bite my tongue!
But Labor fought--- and also died
to make the workplace fair.
Minimum wage and 8 hour day;
Democracy's sweet share.

Minimum wage and 8 hour day;
Democracy's sweet share.
And safety too, for workers came
no workers torn asunder!
With solidarity en mass---
manufacturing wonder!
That time after the World War II,
was Empire then of WORK.
Today, that glory's marched off- shore,
and workers? Not a perk.
Our Middle Class seems poised to fall,
with Poor and Seniors too.
America, I have to say,
what has become of you?
Though pessimist, I seem to sound,
I've optimistic soul!
It takes community to make
a nation truly whole.
And while, No "man" an island is
I clearly see the light!
Connect to neighbors, city too,
and surge with second sight.
For Labor Day's not history;
it has communal heart.
Today's a day of rest for some;
Tomorrow's a new start.
So Happy Labor Day to you---
sing out and party down.
But watch that drinking party ones---
or DUI will hound!
Three Musketeers, they had a plan
which spoke in simple way.
"All for one and one for all."
Now that's a Holiday!
