Now that Altadena's trash collection is coralled in Athens Services' trash carts, some complaints have emerged about residents keeping their trash carts in the street for days, or sometimes all week.
Christine Wong of the county Department of Public Works e-mailed us to say that there is only a limited amount of time when the trash carts are supposed to be out. The county code (20.72.110) specifies that trash carts can only go out after 5 PM the day before pickup, and removed no later than 8 PM on collection day.
For any questions regarding this matter or to report a violation, please contact the Department of Public Works’ Residential Trash Collection Hotline at (800) 993-5844. The Department of Public Works will assist by tagging the containers that are in violation of the County Code. If the violation persists, cases will be referred to the Department of Public Health for additional enforcement.
