Altadenablog sponsor The Arroyo Food Co-op says you can pre-order a free-range turkey from now through Oct. 31.
The antibiotic-free gobblers will be delivered fresh (not frozen) a few days before Thanksgiving in individual boxes. Price is $2.85 per pound (you can order in two pound increments).
The turkeys come from Shelton's Poultry, which operates out of Pomona and raises the birds in Fresno. Exact pickup details are being worked out, but the co-op says that the turkeys will be delivered during the week before Thanksgiving in the Pasadena/Altadena area. Pickup information will be emailed out beforehand, and posted on the co-op's turkey ordering web page.
The co-op says: "Because these turkeys are fresh, Shelton's cannot guarantee the size of your bird to the ounce, which is why they take orders in two-pound increments. So keep in mind that if you order a turkey, it can range within two pounds. Shelton's is an established local business with nearly 90 years of experience, and they rarely deliver turkeys smaller than ordered."
