There are big doings at the Altadena Farmer's Market next week on Oct. 31, Halloween.
First, market manager Joseph Shuldiner says that the market will celebrate the season by creating "a fun and safe environment for kids to trick-or-treat while parents will be able to shop for fresh fall produce, fruit, prepared foods from our farmers and vendors. The market will be well-lit as well as decorated for the day and vendors will be handing out candy all day. Yes, it's a departure from their normal healthy posture, but we all have to cut loose a little sometimes."
That day will also mark the final day that Altadena Heritage will serve as the market sponsor. According to a release from Altadena Heritage, the Altadena Community Garden will step in as market sponsor, and they promise the transition will be seamless.
“Altadena Heritage is happy and proud to have played a role in finally getting a farmers market up and running, and to have sponsored it the first six months," said Mark Goldschmidt, chair of Altadena Heritage. Goldschmidt said that the Community Garden, which is right next to the market site at Loma Alta Park, is a much closer fit in terms of location and mission, and was glad to take over sponsorship.
Part of the market's agreement with LA County is that it will be sponsored by a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
The market is open every Wednesday rain or shine from 3-7 PM at Loma Alta Park lower parking lot, 600 W. Palm St.
