"Screamingly Delicious"
from gloriana casey
From ancient Ireland, long ago,
there came a magic night,
when doors into the other world
sprang wide with strange delight!
For Halloween's that one night then
when wild things do run free,
and for the kids it's costume time
plus candy ---- yum - yummy!
And if you have a neighborhood
just filled with Halloween,
then Trick or Treat is magnified
for we all love to scream!

there came a magic night,

when wild things do run free,
and for the kids it's costume time
plus candy ---- yum - yummy!
And if you have a neighborhood
just filled with Halloween,
then Trick or Treat is magnified
for we all love to scream!
Now Mr. Barrett was the best,
when we'd yell " TRICK OR TREAT!"
He'd smile and say "Well what's the trick?"
He's have us stumped, quite neat!
But then he'd laugh, present the trick
in box or paper bag.
We'd have to guess what was inside
by touch, which was the gag.
And one by one we'd reach right in
and scream with sweet delight.
We'd whisper what we thought it was
and no one got it right!
We all had different thoughts, of course,
imaginations blend!
He shared his trick, we got the sweets
and played this years on end.
So if you want to play the game,
I'll share in sweet digress.
One time he peeled two big old grapes
for goblin's eyes! The best!.
Another year, a dragon's tongue,
so long and rough and dry!
A luffa sponge he fooled us with,
oh how we'd scream and cry!
One year he had a slimy mess
our fingers sticky green.
Lime jell-o ---- it was just the touch
for ghost-like slime supreme!
But then---- the Barretts moved away;
our block had lost its glow,
and too, we had grown older then,
not little kids, you know.
But still I fondly do recall
this lovely holiday.
When children cry out, "Trick or Treat!"
"Well, what's the trick? " I say.
Homage to all the Barretts then,
adults who loved to play!
Halloween haunts, sweet memories,
in Happy Holiday!
