Ash Wednesday begins the seaon of Lent leading into Easter, and some of the local churches will be having services and beginning programs today:
Altadena Community Church
As the sunlight lengthens each day in the weeks approaching Easter, Christians experience the season of Lent. Five San Gabriel Valley United Church of Christ congregations will join to observe the beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday, on Feb. 13. All are welcome to gather at Altadena Community Church (943 E. Altadena Drive) for a 6 p.m. potluck in Heicher Hall and then in the sanctuary for the 7 p.m. service. The Rev. Libby Tigner will preach.
ACC has a Lenten study tradition. This year Pastor Joe McGowan will lead discussions exploring the last week of Jesus' life, using Michelangelo's The Pieta as a guide. The one-hour class series will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Sundays (after 10 a.m. worship), beginning Feb. 17; at 5:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Feb. 18; or at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Feb. 21. The Sunday and Thursday classes meet at the church, while the Monday class meets at Coco's Restaurant, 77 N. Lake Ave., Pasadena.
Altadena Community Church welcomes people of different faith understandings, and visitors are welcome. For more information about ACC, see www.altadenaucc.org. For more information about the United Church of Christ denomination, seewww.ucc.org.
