" The Museum Dream of 1915....."
from gloriana casey
It's February-- and that means
the month for Black History.
And way back then ----1915
museum dream we'd see.
From Union Army Vets---this dream
and for their history.
one hundred years----2015
and long time dream will be.
It took a while, of course it did
for D.C. moves so slow.
In 1929 Hoover,
he gave idea a GO!
And things happened, in politics
and budgets, they were cut,
and ideas lived and died and lived----
to dream was not enough!
But finally--- 2012 it brought
the ground breaking on Mall.
Designer chose, Smithsonian in
with history for all!
Though how annoying, yes it is
to take 100 years!
So many people worked so hard,
and spent blood, sweat and tears.
What will you see? All kinds of things
in view of Black History.
Ideas and personal objects too
In Washington D. C.
Perhaps you'll see a hymnal book,
Harriet Tubman----owner.
Or magic horn of Louis Armstrong;
mighty trumpet blower.
Maybe you'll see the dress she wore,
yes-- Rosa Parks---- that Day!
Or even the gymnastic suit,
gold medal win----GABBY!
There's more inside to see and learn
you find a man---Bass Reeves!
Escaped slave turned his life around,
to U.S. Deputy's!
A long time coming this museum---
and long nomenclature :
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN
AMERICAN HISTORY and CULTURE!
In two more years-----2015,
the doors will open wide.
But now, just check the website out
and read on History's pride!
