There are so many things coming up this weekend, it’s hard to keep track of ‘em all, but we’ll try:
Friday
Isadora: Tonight (March 15), Kres Mersky presents “Isadora Duncan: A Unique Recital” at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa Street, starting at 7 PM. The one-woman show celebrates the life of one of the most flamboyant and creative women of the 20th century, is adapted from Isadora’s own writings and provides a multi-dimensional portrait of a woman whose views on the arts, education, and women’s rights continue to inspire many today. the performance is absolutely free. This approximately one-hour performance is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Altadena Library and Poets & Writers, Inc. and directed by Paul Gersten. Following the event there will be a question & answer session with the star and author. Seating for this program is on a first come, first served basis.

Book-a-rama: First, the Altadena Historical Society is holding a huge collectible, vintage, and rare book sale from 8:30 AM- 1:30 PM, includes mostly local, regional and California history and travel books. Prices are very reasonable. All proceeds go to Altadena Historical Society. Only AHS members get early-bird entry at 8 am. Sign up on line http://www.altadenahistoricalsociety.org/membership.htm or come early and purchase your $25 membership the day of the sale. Location: corner of Holliston and Meadowbrook. Hazardous waste roundup: Do that deep spring cleaning and go to the household hazardous waste and e-waste roundup at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works Fleet Maintenance Yard at 242 West Mountain View Avenue, 9 AM-3 PM. Household hazardous waste includes used oil, unused non-controlled medicines, auto fluids, sharps waste/medical needles, beauty products, mercury thermostats, paint and paint-related products, auto and household batteries, lawn and garden products, compact fluorescent light bulbs. Electronic waste includes microwave ovens, CD players, computers and computer monitors, small household appliances, cell phones, televisions, stereos, printers, DVD/DVR players and VCRs. Karate kids: Two Dragons Martial Arts at 2490 North Lake Avenue is offering free martial arts classes to Altadena residents once a month. Check it out, from 9 AM to noon.
Light’s down: The Christmas Tree Lane Association is seeking volunteers to help removed the lights from the deodars on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Meet from 9 AM-noon, coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, and bagels will be provided, and lunch afterward. Meet at Mendocino and Santa Rosa Avenue. For information, visit christmastreelane.net,
Growing stuff: Urban agriculturalist and environmental educator Eugene Cooke, author of “Grow Where You Are” will speak at the Aveson School of Leaders, 1919 East Pinecrest Drive, at 10 AM. Donations are welcome, but no one will be turned away, to benefit the Healthy Living Action Team and Earth Day, Community Day at Aveson!
Spinning yarns: Teens and tweens have a chance to be crafty with an informal hangout for knitters and crocheters and yarn artists off all kinds at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa St. There will be great knitting and crochet books to check out, all levels of skills welcome (bring your own materials), and you could win a gift card to Michael's or your local yarn store.The hangout starts at 1 PM.
Holden an open house: 41st District Assemblymember Chris Holden wil hold an open house at his office at 600 N. Rosemead Blvd., Suite 117, in Pasadena, 2-5 PM. Light food and refreshments will be served. A brief program will honor the 41st Assembly District 2013 Women of the Year.
Music: The Crown City Symphony will hold a free concert at 2 PM featuring cellist Maggie Hummel Strong. Marvin Neumann conducts the orchestra in a program of Rossini's “The Silken Ladder”; Haydn's Cello Concerto #1 in C; and Beethoven's Symphony #7 in A. The concert will be held at 2 PM at the Altadena Senior Center, 560 E. Mariposa. If you miss it, they’re performing again Sunday at 2 PM at the First ;Baptist Church of Pasadena, 75 N. Marengo, Pasadena.

Happy St. Patricks Day:
Horsing around: MACH 1, the therapeutic horseback riding program for riders with disabilities, holds its fourth annual Walk-a-Thon fundraiser at Hahamongna Watershed Park. Registration starts at 8 AM, walk starts at 9 AM. A $10 minimum donation is requested to join this fun family event. Experience a great morning walk in the Arroyo Seco to support a scholarship or help feed the faithful horses. Free refreshments will be available. Stop at the bake sale & craft tables too. Enter the raffle for a chance to win several great prizes including a Kindle Fire HD7! Dogs on a leash are welcome!
Open studio: Alta-artist Patrick Gothard will have an open studio on St. Patrick's Day, Sunday, March 17. He says: "You are invited to a special event and if you dress in green and wear a hat you will recieve a gift. If weather permits I will be showing 300 painting or more...we will have food and some drinks and a lot of art, so please come." Gothard's studio is at 215 Laurel Drive, Altadena, California, USA

XX science: Celebrate women in science with Shari Asplund of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa St., on March 19. NASA Science4Girls and their families uses, videos, hands-on activities, and other resources to help the community explore the wonders of our solar system. (Oh, and you don't have to be a girl to attend!) The program starts a 3:30 PM.
