The Sheriff Support Group's Summer Concert Series at Farnsworth Park Amphitheater kicks off with the Down Beat Express this Saturday, July 6:
For 2013 the emphasis will be “dance” for the Down Beat Express “Dance” Big Band Summer Concert.
Starting in the ‘30s for Benny Goodman’s “Let’s Dance”, to the ‘40s with Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood”, the ‘50s for Dick Clark’s “Band Stand Boogie”, and the ‘60s Ray Charles hit “I Can’t Stop Lovin You”...and a lot more in between. There may even be some “Blues Brothers” blues.
Altadena’s own Jennifer Gates will sing the danceable hits of Frank Sinatra, Nat Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and several others. All in all, a night of dance music and “standards” from “The Great American Song Book”!
Accompanied by Altadena’s own Down Beat Express a17-piece big band performing their own arrangements of swing era standards and truly “blasts from the past” big band hits. Pat Emmett is the music director. So join us and let’s dance!
