The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department is reporting that the body recovered Sunday night near Inspiration Point was believed to be the victim of a fall into a ravine.
According to a press release, the body of the male adult was spotted by a hiker, who contacted authorities. The victim was located by crewmembers of the LASD's Air 5 rescue helicopter at about 1:20 PM.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and air-lifted to Farnsworth Park, where he was examined by a member of the county coroner's office.
The victim has been identified as a resident of Los Angeles. The preliminary cause of death is listed as "trauma sustained during a fall from a steep trail."
