An Altadena resident has reportedly been infected with the West Nile Virus, whichis blamed on a mosquito bite suffered while walking her dog on Braeburn Road about Aug. 10.
A message sent out by her husband to local newsgroups reads:
Walking our Ridgeback on the weekend of August 10 over along Braeburn, my wife ____ was bitten by a mosquito somewhere between Tanoble and Porter. About 3 days later headache and pain suddenly appeared and just day before yesterday [Aug. 28] the confirmed diagnosis of West Nile Virus came back from our internist. Just to let you know that those articles about West Nile appearing throughout the County now include our own Braewatch area. Be careful between dusk and dawn, wear light colored clothing, use Off. I can assure you that this is a virus that has a real punch and you can be very sick for 2 weeks.
We know the couple involved and are trying to make contact -- will update as situation warrants.
