Valor: Sheriff Lee Baca awarded 18 Valorious and Meretorious Conduct Medals to members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for outstanding heroism in the line of duty. Close to home, Mererotrious Conduct and lifesaving medals were give to the members of the Air 5 helicopter crew, rescuers from Montrose Search and Rescue, and deputies from Crescenta Valley for rescuing a victim whose truck plunged off the Angeles Crest Highway. A day with a deputy: The sheriff is having a busy week: On Friday, Nov. 1, Sgt. Chris Meadows and Dep. Tony Moore, public information officers at the sheriff’s headquarters, will be responding to calls throughout the county and tweeting about it. It’s all part of law enforcement’s Global Tweet-Along Day. The officers wil be tweeting the calls they repond to and answering questions throughout their shift, from 12:30-7:30 PM. Follow @LASDTalk on Twitter, and they will be using #LASD and t#POLTWT throughout the day. Altadena Station will be using @ALDLASD.
Something in the air: The Altadena Radio Team, a collection of amateur radio operators in ham, GMRS. and FRS (walkie-talkie) bands, will celebrate its one year anniversary on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Café Culture, 1359 N. Altadena Drive, from 4-6:30 PM. The Altadena Radio team practices regularly to prepare for emergencies . Plan to meet your radio people, learn a bit more about radios and how you can participate in helping your family and your neighborhood. You can bring your out of state contact information to fill out a radiogram that will be sent to your out of state contact when phones are not working. It is best to practice this before the emergency happens. Families, friends, and interested radio people are welcome.
Hahamongna: There will be a special meeting of the Hahamongna Watershed Park Advisory Committee on Wed., Nov. 13, at 6 PM at the Pasadena City Yards, 233 W. Mountain St., 2nd floor, Pasadena. Items planned for the agenda include a briefing by the LA County Dept. of Public Works Staff on the Draft EIR for the Devil’s Gate Sediment Removal Project; an update on Pasdena Equestrian Center leases; and an update on the Arroyo Seco Canyon project.
Reception: There will be a reception at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art on Saturday, Nov. 2, for Alta-photog Jane Szabo. Szabo is appearing in the show “Compass: Navigating the Journey to Self Identity” at the gallery, 117 N. Sycamore in Santa Ana. The reception will be from 6-10 PM.
