Mold it: Xiem Clay Center, where many Altadena potters ply their trade, marks its tenth anniversary this weekend with its annual Fall Ceramic Art Fair, featuring work by over 40 Xiem studio members and invited local artists. The anniversary event kicks off on Friday, Nov. 15, at 6 PM with Japanese Taiko drumming and the opening reception for a ceramic art exhibition entitled: Ten Great Years at Xiem! which features recent work by some of the artists that have shown in Xiem Gallery since it opened in 2003. On Saturday, Nov. 16, there will be full program of pottery and sculpture demonstrations by Xiem Studio members, complemented by live music – including an Open Mic from 2-4pm. Xiem Clay Center is at 1563 North Lake Avenue. Pasadena.
Shoot it: Alta-photog Jane Szabo is at it again: some of her recent environmental portraits will be on display at Long Beach Arts, 5372 Long Beach Boulevard, Long Beach. Opening reception is from 2-4 PM Sunday, Nov. 17. The show runs through Dec. 13.
Dance it: Family Dance Night returns to Sue B. Studios Friday night, 2424 N. Lake Avenue, from 6-7 PM. Parents, kids, grandparents, friends, neighbors -- anybody from age 5 to 85 is invited to enjoy a variety of dance moves and grooves with party dances, line dances, maybe even a square dance or two. Cost is $5/person (under 4 free), family of four or more $15, cash only at the door (children 12 and under need a parent or older sibling).
