There'll be a lot of activity at tomorrow's Altadena Farmers' Market.
- Tour: Become a Farmers' Market VIP and come shop with Market Manager Joseph Shuldiner. Join Joseph as he shops the market and personally introduces you to the farmers and food makers. You'll learn the difference between a "CertifiedMarket" and "Certified Organic" plus there will be plenty of samples and tastings. Sign up - it's free! Tours are at 4 PM the first Wednesday of the month (that's tomorrow!) RSVP at: info@altadenafarmersmarket.com
- Market Match: The market is participating in a new Market Match program. Funded by First 5 LA and administered through Hunger Action LA. The First 5 LA Market Match dollars are for families with children aged 0 - 5 [pregnant women qualify too] and have no income limitations. It is a cash match program up to $10. That's more cash to spend on healthy produce. The regular Market Match program will still remain for people that receive SNAP/EBT/food stamps, WIC, SSI, SSDI, Social Security and/or Medicare benefits. Customers that use EBT at the market will be 'matched' up to $10. Market Match is a program that helps supplement farmers' market spending for low income individuals. Altadena is one of twelve markets in LA County that participates. As cuts to SNAP benefits start today, the Market Match program will help individuals and families supplement lost benefits and access healthy foods at farmers markets.
- Business launch: Also on Wednesday, the Market will help launch the Altadena Crate Co. - a group of local wood workers using locally foraged wood to build old school fruit crates. They will be participating in the market about once a month and rotating with a number of other food/culinary/agriculture related artisans. Look for weekly announcements on the market's Facebook page.
The Altadena Farmers Market will be Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 3-7 PM.
