But once a year, it REALLY becomes an adults-only gathering as they turn up the naughty for a good cause.
Tuesday, Nov. 12 (that is, 11/12/13) the Ale House hosts the fourth annual LA Limerick Festival, where people gather to write, recite, and share their five-line poetry, usually recited with a knowing wink.
This year, the Festival is a benefit for "A Case for the Cure," to benefit City of Hope and cancer research.
Jan Michael Alejandro, founder of Nail Soup Productions, which is putting on the Festival, says that Festival readers come from all walks of life, including employees of JPL and, heavens, NPR.
Alejandro and Gail Casburn have been priming the pump the past few weeks by designating Tuesdays as limerick writing nights, where aspiring poets can scratch out a few words of verse and test their limericks out in public.
The event will be hosted again this year by 100.3 FM personality Mimi Chen as mistress of ceremonies. Special surprise guests are also promised.
The event kicks off at 7 PM Nov. 12 at the Altadena Ale & Wine House, 2329 N. Fair Oaks Avenue. Admission is $10 and all proceeds will go to City of Hope
