is, CUCURBITA PEPO, and ----
he's loved most everywhere.
Cucurbita------ the Latin name
simply means---a gourd.
and fleshy fruit------the pepo word;
some Latin you just scored!
October time, Pumpkin's named, JACK,
he's carved a pumpkin face.
November brings that sharing time,
and sweet Thanksgiving grace.

From North America, the birth-----
for ancient one, this squash.
Old as 700 BCE----
a timeless and great nosh!
Oh yes, Pumpkin he can be boiled,
or baked and even steamed!
Roasted, or mashed-----puree or soup
as PIE------oh yes-------the dream!
A lovely food he truly is,
and round the world he's known.
PEPON is what he's called in Greek,
so popular he's grown.
Mais Oui! In French he's called POTIRON;
BOGA----- in Swahili.
In German----- KURBIS is the name------
there's such variety!
Oh lovely pumpkin, skin of orange,
the glow of sunset skies!
Your gift to us is carotene;
Vitamin A for eyes!
And Cinderella knew him well;
her coach was Pumpkin made!
But when that magic time ran out,
as Pumpkin, he then stayed,
" Bibbity Bobbity Boo"---try that,,
when for dessert they cry!
