Library reveals summer programs for kids, teens

2008 Summer Reading Club
Catch the Reading Bug!    

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, children of all ages and reading abilities are invited to join this year’s FREE Summer Reading Club. The purpose of this program is to encourage children to get in the habit of reading every day and to spark in them a life-long love of reading and learning.  Participation in this program can also help the children retain their reading skills through the summer. We’ll be offering special programs, give-a-ways, and contests all summer long. Visit www.altadenalibrary.org for more info.

The award winning Main Library is located at 600 E. Mariposa Street.  The address of the Bob Lucas Memorial Branch Library is 2659 North Lincoln Avenue. Buster Balloon

The Buster Balloon Show! It’s a balloon twisting spectacular that is part physical comedy, part vaudeville, and just a little bit of magic, all combined with the most incredible balloon twisting you have ever seen!

Fantasy in Magic

Combine the magic of an illusion show with the awesome magnificence of a reptile show and you have our Exotic Animal Magic Show. This standard reptile petting zoo is a fun experience for young and old alike. Hold, touch, and pet different animals and even get a special picture to take home.

Scott Land Marionettes

Fast paced musical variety show with hand made professional marionettes. Join is for a wonderful performance of marionettes, artistic music, and a behind-the-scenes presentation on how the marionettes are created.

Bookish Books, Stories and Songs. This interactive and playful program presents international stories taken from literature about beautiful butterflies, creepy caterpillars, bustling bees and silly spiders.

From the beloved best selling series of books comes this fantasy adventure about the Grave family who moves into the secluded house of their great, great Uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Once there, they begin to notice strange accidents and disappearances that seem to happen on a daily basis and they begin to uncover the fantastic truth of creatures which inhabit the Spiderwick estate.

Steve Firchow, Video Game Art Director, is a 2D and 3D artist, will give a walk-through/talk-through of art and computers and the world of video games. Plus he will give us a sneak-peak of his current video game project.
